So here we are again this year doing the 20% time project as a part of GHEnglish. If you have no idea what I am talking about, google it or check out the website.
Last year, my project was centered around minorities and increasing awareness and acceptance within my school and hopefully some other ones as well. Was this project successful? No, but for a variety of reasons.
1: I did not have the time. The scale of the project that I wanted to complete was too large. I wanted to make a video interviewing other minority students in my school about their experiences then present the video to both of the middle school in my district in hopes of creating a club for minorities similarly to the one that was started last year in my high school.
2: My teacher said that we did not actually have to complete the project. She stressed that if we felt overwhelmed by our ideas, to just create a storyboard or just have the beginnings of the project started.
That being said, I was really passionate about my project and the work that I did for the project. It taught me a lot about a major part of my identity that I would not say I was in touch with prior to the project. At some point in my life, I would like to continue or revisit this project because it is very important to me. I feel that it would be very beneficial to middle school aged kids to become more in touch with their race or ethnicity especially in my area, where they are the severe minority.
Now after starting to thinking about my project for this year and going through the bad idea factory, I think I have my project figured out. One of my friends and I are going to create a video for 1-2 second everyday for a set amount of days (probably 3 months) and turn it into a longer video. I was inspired by seeing a bunch of one second a day in my life for a year videos.

That alone as a project is not that impressive so we want to take it a step further by creating an app . We want to it to be a place where people can post their own videos everyday and it will compile them into daily albums that people can go back and watch. I would love it to be able to sort your videos by week, months and location as well. The purpose of this would be to spread daily happiness and encourage people to celebrate each moment.
After learning all about Carpe Diem for the past few months, I actually want to practice what I learned. People spend a lot of time dealing with personal issues and things like depression. I want this app to be a place where people can go to remember a happier day when they are sad or having a bad one. If I could make at least one person a day smile that would be all worth it.
Now that I just said all of these things, this is what I would like to do, but check back next week to see if I actually follow through.
